COLOR RUN FAQ
Q: Do I need to be a serious athlete to participate?
A: No. A color run is all about having FUN with your friends and family and is open to the entire community and all athletic abilities. Get up and get moving - it does not matter if you run, jog, walk or stroll the course or only part of the course, just as long as you are there!
Q: What is included with my registration?
A: Each pre-registered participant will receive a white event t-shirt and a color packet. Same-day registration and any registrations received past our pre-registration date will be provided a shirt and color packet while supplies last (not guaranteed).
Q: Can I run with a jogging stroller and my kids?
A: Yes! All kids under the age of 5 can run with an adult -- FREE of charge -- and do not need to register! Unregistered children do not get a t-shirt or race packet and are not eligible for any awards and contests.
Q: Can I run / walk with my dog?
A: Sorry, for the safety of our participants and animal friends, we do not allow animals at the Color Walk/Run
Q: What should I wear?
A: Participants should wear the event shirt and mostly white. Participants registering after the pre-registration deadline or the day of the event are not guaranteed to receive a t-shirt and are therefore encouraged to wear a white shirt (or shirts that are mostly white), just in case we run out of shirts that day. Shorts/pants do not need to be white. Many participants also like to wear colorful tutus, socks, or bandannas.
Q: How is the color administered along the course?
A: You will see smiling faces of Mon Ice Project volunteers and Belle Vernon Area Middle school faculty/staff along the course, whose main goal is to douse you in colorful powder to ensure that you look like you ran through a beautiful rainbow by the time you cross the finish line. Color will be aimed at your shirt and the lower half of your body.
Q: What if I want to participate but do not want color on me?
A: Anyone wishing not to have color thrown should announce it when they are at each color station and go to the opposite side of the throwers. Previous participants in color runs have completed the entire course with a spec of color on their clothing. Participants not wishing to receive color should also stand to the side during the "color throw" at the start of the event.
Q: Is The Color Run safe?
A: The health and safety of all participants is a priority in planning and conducting this event, making it safe for everyone.
Q: Will the color ruin clothes or running shoes?
A: The color does mostly wash out after the event, especially if it is washed shortly thereafter. It is suggested that you wear items that you do not mind getting stained with color.
Q: Do the “Color Zones” affect a runner's vision or breathing?
A: The color powder used is all certified non-toxic and free of any heavy metals. Our bright colors are a combination of cornstarch, baking soda, and FD&C dyes. Our fabulous color powder is more like make-up and is completely safe. As with any substance, you should keep it out of your eyes, and our color throwers make sure to aim at the lower portion of our body as you pass by. As a precaution, some participants opt to wear glasses or goggles for their eyes and use a bandana or dust mask for their mouths.
Q: How does the color affect the inside of cars?
A: Most participants bring some towels for the inside of their car. It is actually pretty fun to see people still colorful around after the Color Run / Walk event. It is like a badge of honor!
Q: Can spectators attend the post-race finish celebration?
A: Absolutely. We will have color powder packets available first-come/first-serve for anyone to purchase. But there are no guarantees that these spectators will come out of this party clean!
Q: Are cameras and phones safe to have in the color zones?
A: If you want to take pictures while in the midst of the color event, we recommend putting cameras/phones in a dry bag or a sealable plastic bag. Spectator pictures are safe and turn out well when taken from a distance of 25-50 feet away.
Q: Is this a timed event?
A: The color run is not a timed event. Participants can take their time on the course and enjoy the being with their family and friends. We suggest self-timing for anyone desiring a finish time.
Q: Are there refunds?
A: Sorry, we cannot issue refunds for this event. If for some reason you cannot participate in the event, you can still pick up your participant packet the morning of the race or have someone retrieve it for you.
Q: What if I have an ADA need?
A: If you have an ADA need please contact us [email protected]
Q: What happens if there is inclement weather?
A: A little rain will not stop the fun and will even make the colors brighter! If there are major weather warnings during the day of the event, check our website or Facebook page for updates.
Q: Have a question that isn’t answered here?
A: Please email [email protected] to contact us and we will get back to you with an answer.
